Euflexxa

What is Euflexxa?

A sterile hyaluronic acid gel injected into the knee to improve joint lubrication and cushioning. It can help relieve osteoarthritis pain when simpler treatments have not worked. A doctor or radiologist will advise if it suits you.

What happens during my Euflexxa?

After check in, the radiologist explains the procedure and confirms consent. Your knee is cleaned, and a local anaesthetic may be used. Using ultrasound, a fine needle is guided into the joint and Euflexxa is injected slowly. A small dressing is applied, and you can usually go home soon after.

How long will it take?

Plan about 15 to 20 minutes in the clinic. The injection itself is 5 to 10 minutes. Allow around 30 minutes total for check in and aftercare. Add time if both knees are treated or if fluid needs to be drained. Most courses are three injections one week apart.

What are the possible side effects?

Mild knee pain, swelling, warmth, stiffness, or bruising can occur and usually settle with rest and ice. Occasionally there is a short inflammatory flare or extra fluid in the joint. Seek urgent care for fever, severe pain, rapidly increasing swelling, a spreading rash, or trouble breathing.

Why choose Euflexxa?

For some patients it provides symptom relief that lasts longer than a single dose option. It acts locally in the joint so systemic side effects are lower. It persists in the joint for a period which can support sustained benefit. It is not animal derived which lowers allergy risk.

Can I use a referral addressed to another imaging provider?

Yes. We accept valid referrals to any provider. Bring your referral and Medicare card.

How do I prepare for my Euflexxa?

No special preparation. Eat and drink as normal. Wear clothes that allow easy access to your knee. Bring your referral and Medicare card. Tell us about blood thinners, allergies, or any prior joint infection. Plan light activity for the rest of the day.

Who is Euflexxa suitable for?

It may suit:

  • Adults with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis whose pain persists after exercise therapy and simple pain medicines
  • People who cannot have or prefer to avoid cortisone or frequent anti-inflammatory tablets
  • Patients aiming to reduce pain and keep function while delaying surgery
  • Selected non knee joints after specialist review
  • Use alongside other treatments as part of a plan your doctor sets
